    Headed up on a canoing trip, first time to this river, I hear tell of some fantastic smallmouth fishing, wanna hook up with a few on the float, both on the fly rod and the spin cast outfit. Anyone been up there, any tips you are willing to share?

    i have fished the New River a lot...that was the first place i ever caught a smallie..what part are you going to...I will be on the river june 21-25.In virginia...there are some huge muskie also...
