Default Kayaks at the public ramp

It’s one thing to put your personal kayak in and paddle about but how the hell can a business operate out of a public space and tie up the whole parking lot? Every damn spot at Moore’s landing in Awendaw except to the right of where you drive in had a single car in it, only room for 8 trucks/trailers because of the cars in the trailer spots paying to paddle. I asked them about it and they weren’t very responsive.

Sounds like the norm. Ohioans and Jersey folks got to see the marsh before they move there full time

Sounds like a good fishing trip, roll a few kayaks when you get out the no wake zone and they will find calmer water

Well they got as much right as we do to use a public ramp, for what it’s worth. Problem I have is they shut the river down on Wylie fro Hwy 74 to above I85 to no wake for the paddlers. I am ok with that. Then I see a hoard of paddlers out on the big water in the open lake. These folks crazy or what. Have had to avoid several in the channel in the main lake. They need to stay in the paddle zone. BUT it a free country and they can go where they want but they are risking live and limb. How long before they extend the no wake zones.

I hate kayak tours more than I hate jet skis and that's saying something. I had to idle through a group of 50+ of them back in November with a deer laid across the front deck, safe to say I got some strange looks from those yankees.

A car has no business parking where a truck/trailer parks and how can you operate a for hire business on public property? 20-30 people paying to get in the way ain’t right.

I think your question applies broadly, as in why should we have commercial use of our public resources in the first place. You wanna guide for fish? Buy a pond…

Yep , I don't use guides often ,but the few times I have we have met at a public landing and their boat was launched from the public ramp and the tow vehicle was parked in the public lot. What's good for one group should be good for all.

A guide who has a customer vehicle or 2 is a lot different then 30 kayakers turning a one ramp landing into a cluster fuck although I get what y’all are saying. I wake up every single morning with the intent to not get in anyone’s way or inconvenience anyone (other than my wife). I succeed 99% of the time. People that get in the way bother me.

Boarders are in their own world just need to keep safety in mind. Many of the jet skiers just don’t know or think they should follow the rules of the waterways. No different than half the ones out in boats after 1pm on Sat and Sun after the weather turns. I try to get off the water before they show up. A lot of them are responsible people in day to day life and just loose their common sense when they hit the open water. Lakes are getting smaller every year

I know what you mean. Paradise landing is worse than Moore's for derelict kayakers.

They are more prevalent these days and yes it’s aggravating when they lock up public ramps. Cajunwannabe helped a guy the other week who fell out theirs. They are a lot like bicycles in the sense they clog up right of ways and not much sense attached.

Of the 20 some odd guides I know in Charleston, all of em use public boat ramps.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Like UTVs and mopeds on the major roads.

Have you tried to operate a boat in Shem Creek in the summer, these people are idiots.

It's the same people that ride bikes on major two lane roadways.

Agreed. There should be a certain amount of designated spots (few) for non trailered vehicles. Or at least get them to park 2 or 3 deep in one trailer parking spot.
