    Default Swans

I drew a swan permit again this year so I called Tyler O'Dell at Blackland Guide Service who I've been hunting with for several years. He told me to come on down and hunt with the TFO guys and that he was loaded with birds. I jumped in the truck yesterday morning at 12:30 am and made the 4 hour drive to Pantego,NC. I took a short nap in the truck until all of the guys got there at 5:45 am then we headed out to the field. We started setting up a daylight and already had swans trying to lite in the decoys. We rotated shooters into and out of the field until everyone had shot their bird. We were done by 8:30 am and I was back in the truck and on the way home by 10 am. It was a long day but well worth it getting the pleasure to hunt with a group of retired and active duty military men.

Great photo. What does one do with the swan? Eat it?

Never killed one but watched a few bite the dust. Swans are huge birds. Supposed to be good eating but I can’t say. When you have to draw a tag those with tags generally don’t share.

Swans taste fine. They graze like geese and eat plenty of grain as well. Ask any impoundment owner, the swans get their share.

There were 9-10 swans right out in front of Scarborough's this morning. They are huge birds.

My buddies and I were blanked for swan again this year. We have enough preference points that we should have pulled the permit.

Funny thing that isn't widely advertised is the fact that a percentage of permits are kept out of the preference point system and awarded to applicants without points.

I drew for a tag for 5 years straight and never got a tag. Several with me got tags. Just unlucky if guess.
