    I think he was broke and over-extended which led to more
    risky doings with trust / escrow money, kiting checks, loans from the firm, etc
    I bet he was mortgaged to the teeth

    I worked for a super rich guy for 37 years. He was a bible thumper and a really nice guy but just a little shady with the money nearing the end. He bankrupted the company which was by choice in my opinion. He ended up loosing most of his status in the community and his assets BUT he never had to take a job. The worst thing these kind of people could face in life is to become a regular person just like most of us. It is demoralizing and there are others like them that will enable them.
