River Bend Sportsman's Resort at Fingerville, S.C., will begin offering hunts for released ducks during the upcoming season.

Statesville native Ralph Brendle, owner of the 20-year-old resort, said he has obtained licensing from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. "It's really unique," said Brendle. "Our season for flighted mallards will run from Oct. 1 to April 1." That's much longer than the regular migratory waterfowl season.

No federal duck stamp is required and there is no bag limit. However, either a resident state small-game license or non-resident shooting preserve license is required.

This ain't my cup of tea, nor is it hunting, but as long as they have a preserve license and they catch the birds that don't get killed during a hunt I don't have a problem with it. This is a lot like live pigeon shoots, just not as challenging.

If I'm not mistaken they have to kill all of their birds after their season ends too. Seems I heard that somewhere.

This isn't the same as what SCW does releasing birds into the wild.

What would happen if a wild mallard came in to a spread on during the October or April season? Would it be shot? Would it be legal?

just like having live decoys for hunting season aint it?

Wow. I'm surprised to hear this. Ralph is a pretty good guy, but that states that he is in it for more money. I've quail and pheasant hunted up there a lot. River Bend does/did do a few duck hunts in the past, but not like that. and as far as I know they were wild in the past. Oh well.

Sounds like the same deal at Harris Springs and Broxton Bridge Plantation.

What they will most likely do is throw the ducks out of a tower that is just off from a pond. The hunters will be set up in "blinds" around the pond. Everyone will hail call their asses off to the idiot ducks that will fly right to the pond and get shot dead!

It's a waste! But there are corporate big shots that will pay and think that it is duck hunting.

Heres the hunt scenario---They have their Niglet run them over with a ATV to get them off the corn pile and to "fly" in which they fly straight to the first idiot blowing a kazoo and land only to be shot at about 5 times, no plugs. Then you hear the kill shots, normally 2-3 more, then they start yelling at their dog to "fetch him up boy- HUNT dead" These birds wont take first flight till about 8:30 if the ATV doesnt start. The good thing about them is life expectancy is only about 3 minutes after the ATV is started.

Turd- very few niglets in New Prospect, but lots of ATV's. Likely a "three-willer".

*-+It's a shame that we don't live in a flyway that doesn't have more ducks that they couldn't have wild duck hunts but that isn't going to happen especially when we have organizations that are more worried about tax loopholes for the rich and say it is for the good of the ducks instead of addressing the real issues why we don't have ducks in those beaver ponds that we used to.Has anyone noticed just how many ducks are in these "conservation easement projects" . I hope you realize that our tax dollars pay for those and they also pay to plant them just so someone else can hunt them. Just thought I would give you something to think about.

It is a great thing that we can live in a country that we can we can sell a set up hunting situation to those that want to pay for it. I would like to shoot wild ducks all the time but that just isn't possible is it. I sure would like to know what you guys thought about our present situation.

Ralph must be getting desperate. He used to have a decent clay range, but it’s gone downhill in recent. I don’t know anyone that shoots there on a regular basis anymore. Sadly, I think these types of shoots are becoming more prevalent. As long as there is a market for this type of shooting, there will be someone willing to offer them. All but 2 of the sporting clays clubs I know of are now offering these types of shoots. Notice, I don’t use the word hunt. Hermitage Farms and Rocky Knoll are the two hold outs. Rocky Knoll will never and Joe Cantey has no interest. For a sure thing where the animal has no chance of a fair encounter, I’d rather keep shooting clays. They are much cheaper anyhow.

Hell Joe gives me a rash of shit for shooting doves with premium load 12ga. He doesn't shoot any type of birds anymore to my knowledge. I seriously doubt he would ever consider such. Can you imagine standing at the 5 stand mudhole and them slinging ducks across it with a catapolt? LMFAO!

Checked out Broxton bridge after Mr Varn had two mexicans fall out of the back of a pickup years back. You really want to see a duck shooting joke, check that place out. Have breakfast at 8:30a cooked by authentic negros in a authentic shack and then walk 75yrds to a "blind" on a fish pond where they will release how ever many ducks you buy that will fly over the trees to your right and light in front of you. No waders needed.

When you look at it it is real cheap. It is also more reliable than driving to Ark. and sitting in an overpriced blind and watching the decoys float around and hearing how the ducks were there last week.
