I hear ya sprig, I'm ready to cast and blast. Next Saurday, Sept 29th you can hunt teal & marsh-hen, and catch tailing reds in the same day. I hate I have a tournament that day...

Going after them this weekend for the first time. Looking forward to it!

Question - can you shoot lead or does it have to be non-toxic shot?

Its been a while since ive tried it, but i think you can still use lead.
Better check with Trad though.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

You can use lead. Marsh hens are not "waterfowl". At least that's the answer I got when I asked the LE division at Fort Johnson.

I don't know what the law is but I'd plug my gun nonetheless.

Bring a bucket of rocks to help flush the birds. Most of the time, they will try to escape by swimming away instead of flying. You can also use the rocks to mark the birds for the dog if he missed the mark.

Pole at least once before you shoot. You are not allowed to shoot from a boat that is under power or even if it is still coasting after the engine is shut down.

Better check the regs. I don't think the season is open this weekend. Not until Wed the 26th. You hunting out of state?

HC, dont you get all your Legal questions answered on internet forums? I dont even know why they publish regulation booklets anymore. Just post a question, and go with the majority answer

We got checked by DNR two times during the first weekend. We used lead and everything was fine. Make sure you have a plug and make sure your boat is completely stopped before you start shooting. He watched us for a good hour to make sure we weren't driving and shooting. He was even shooting his shotgun to pretend he was just another guy hunting. Tricky uh.
