Caught my first tarpon finally yesterday! A friend and I had the day open and the weather finally cooperated. Fish ate live menhaden, was over 100lbs prob less than 150. Put on a pretty good show from the time he crashed the bait all the way til we got him boatside for release. Only two ppl on board so we unfortunately dont have a whole lot of great pics or video (video shows where I am and I am not posting it) between scrambling around. At one point in the beginning the fish ran up starboard side before we had cut free from the anchor and started under the bow. I was able to scramble up my narrow gunnel (walk around) and turn him but he started right at the anchor line. I thought that was going to be it and I was about to lean over bow rail to try to follow the fish under the anchor line to keep clear and at the last second he mustve seen the anchor line and just skied all the way out of the water over it. Was pretty crazy!! Leadered and brought to boat 6-8 times before he finally tired down some to allow for a nice release. ~45min fight, was leadered first time in prob 15 min, but only fishing 60lb leader so I couldn’t really hang on if he wasnt having it. Biggest “inshore” fish of my life, we will remember this one for a long time!
