It’s official: Josh Belk added to Gamecocks roster

    August 02, 2018 03:04 PM

Updated 4 hours 34 minutes ago

Josh Belk officially became a member of South Carolina’s football team on Thursday.

The Clemson transfer reported for fall camp along with the rest of the Gamecocks on Thursday. He joins South Carolina just eight months after originally signing with the Tigers out of high school and will wear No. 96 for USC.

Muschamp said the team will ask for an NCAA waiver to allow the 6-foot-3, 309-pounder to play in 2018. If his waiver is denied, he won’t be eligible to play until the 2019 season.

“They’ve been much more lenient in transfer situations,” Muschamp said of the NCAA. “I think Josh has got a very good case for that.”

Belk announced he was transferring from Clemson in May. He made a verbal commitment to South Carolina in June.

“They said I’ll be a good help to the team because I can move all around the defensive line with them in their packages that they run,” Belk told The State at the time.

Belk was rated a top 10 defensive tackle in the country coming out of Lewisville High School.

Congrats. Looks like Carolina picked up one who realized he was going to ride the bench at Clemson. #toodeep

Yep he did not like the fact that everyone on the D line stayed. He knew he would be riding the pine. That’s all this boils down to.

I hope he plays this year. I’d like to see him quit again in November.

Good for him. From all I've read, he seems like a good kid. Hope he does well.

For a group that has a recent Natty they sure are an insecure bunch.

Muschamp is doing well on the recruiting trail considering what he started with.

    Good for him.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I hate that Josh chose to leave. He’s a strong young man and could have helped Clemson in a couple of years. I’m not sure what was different when he arrived than what he thought he was signing up for, but I hope he is happy in Columbia.

Clemson will recruit another just like him, and life will go on. Attracting elite talent doesn’t seem to be an issue up thar right now.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

Let the chest beating begin. He'll have a much easier road in Columbia.
