Move the trash can inside of 30 yards of the back porch. Keep the motion floods on in the back yard. Let him hold a Easton FMJ with a slick trick. Repet as needed.

If you're shooting them in the yard get a suppressed blackout and shot 110 grain Barnes at their head.
.223 is out. I knew that much going in and should have explained it up front. I could kill a bear with one no sweat, but I expect this one to be functional for anyone who is handy...
458 socom is your Huckleberry in my opine and experience with most other Ar cartridges in both platforms.
Pros:
- runs on the lighter frame of AR 15 vs Ar 10 platform= easier to manipulate,
-heavy grain offerings in a variety of bullet configs from jacketed HP to Barnes TTSX= can be used for multiple uses
-shorter barrel configs = again easier to manipulate
-low recoil = easier acquisition on follow up shots
- knock a dumptruck down ft/lbs wise with heavier offerings
- inherent accuracy of big diameter bullet.
- cartridge runs in the same standard Ar 15 mag ( pmag preferred)
- Lower will interchange with a 223/5.56 upper - if you wanted to swap for say a coyote hunt etc just buy a 5.56 / 223 upper and your in business for yotes, deer etc.
-rails allow for either red dot, lazer, IR or scoped options etc according to your heat guard/forearm config choice
- can be had for a reasonable price from RRA.
With the ability to swap a 223/ 5.56 upper and the use of the same mags its hard to beat as a combo rig and covers just about everything you could want to gun.
Cons = ammo slightly pricey & not available in most stores though easily found and ordered online ( save the brass and sell later if you don't reload) drops pretty hard beyond 150 yds with heavier offerings.

I'd go 308 - known quantity and ammo is everywhere and you know it will kill the shit out of either pigs or deer.

Armalite AR10T carbine.
The unfortunate truth of the matter is that AR-10's suck and there aren't really any good cartridges compatible with a AR-15 up to the task out to 600m. Just my 2¢
