    Velocity.

If pressure and volume stay the same, and they do, then decreasing pipe size increases velocity.

So I take my water hose and decrease the size of the opening with my thumb, it will shoot a stream a lot further.

Exactly. And you didn't get a smaller hose to make it happen, you covered up some of the hole.

    OK. Here's how this went....

I have plenty of PVC. grabbed a new piece (same diameter) and cut fewer, smaller holes. Plugged it in. It shot across the pool then quickly subsided to the normal output I had with the larger holes. Hmmmmm. I said WTF so I grabbed another piece as my daughter is laughing at me and drilled two small holes in each side. Plugged it in. Shot across pool them down to the previous level. I started thinking "those fuckers are playing tricks on me." So, I grabbed my smart kid and said "Kid. Figure this shit out for me. Its math." He looked at all I had and you could see the wheels turning and he said "its leaking somewhere when the pressure gets up."

so....I know the answer....but does anyone else?

I ended up with the same diameter pipe with MORE, LARGER holes in it to increase the amount of water in the air. Fewer, smaller holes did nothing to increase the volume of water extruded.

Because....my son was right...it was losing pressure THRU THE OTHER JETS. I had my daughter go put her hand over the nearest jet and I could increase the pressure (and thus the volume and distance). Ergo, when the pressure increased in my device, the other jets took over. So, there is no way to make a device that shoots more water farther without making it the only outlet for the water.

So, the next question is "can i plug up the other jets without damaging my pump?"

or my first thought is to tell my family to quit bitching that the pool is too hot buncha spoiled rotten little brats.

Good work Toof on the research, I’ll be waiting for the documentary on the discovery channel.
