    Default spot spraying pigweed?

The dove club has been plagued with pigweed. It's not too bad yet this year but it is showing up in some of the sunflowers. A couple years ago we had a work day and chopped as much down as possible with machetes and brush blades. That helped somewhat but it was pretty hard work.

What is a good herbicide that could be used to spot spray individual plants from a backpack sprayer? Seems like it would be better to kill it to the root and maybe have less problems next year.

Nothing at this point, except hard labor. Paraquat will burn it back. Liberty same thing, maybe better.

Chopping = seed dispersal. A lot of it.

Man up and buy some zidua. Let me know how it works...

Zidua is only gonna work on small, just emerged and pre emerged weeds. Herbicide label abuse is what has us in the resistant pigweed dilemma to begin with. Hand pull them and haul out of the field. Dispose of properly. One pigweed that produces mature seeds will provide you with thousands of little pigweed next spring.

24d hammers it pretty good. Doesn't always kill it, but it drops to the ground and stops growing. It also seems to develop a thickened, succulent stem that deer absolutely love.

    AMEN

i aint spot spraying any more. I walk around with my puppy and pull everyone I see. Mornings are best but after a rain is good, too!

It really is horrible stuff. Just me making a concerted effort to not hunt in the spots where is thriving in our field is the only thing that keeps me going. Birds don't mind it though, it's ugly to us but it doesn't bother them. If it gets real bad the only problem is lost birds, which is a problem.

And new hunting pants, I took some notes from Chessbay. Plus they're an ass of doves around.. I about started naming all of it, but honestly we all don't have time for that.
