    Default King fishing around Beaufort

I have read it used to really be a thing until Cobia and other factors killed it in the mid 2000s. I have seen a few reports of some local guides of of HHI killing them and some big Spanish on the nearshore reefs. Does anyone here mess with it?

I’m sure I left out some rad lingo....

I use to really get into them out front of HHI. Haven't done it in years but have been itching to take the boys and give it a try. I can certainly give you a few pointers. I assume you would be out the north end?

Cigar minnows/menhaden, duster skirts, wire and treble hooks. Learn to troll real slow and tie a Haywire twist. And you’ll need a boat that goes 80mph+.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Plus structure or tidelines, it can be extremely boring creeping along so slow that you cannot escape a fart. Try a little bit of it, but look into bottom fishing or spade fishing also.

Yea running out of Beaufort inlet. By the time I figured a few things out in NC and had some gear I had to deploy and sold the boat.

Gold chain has been mentioned but White tennis shoes are also a must.

Not really looking for techniques just more of are there fish here and is worth my time? I know the water isn’t nearly as deep here as it was in NC.

No, I haven’t been back to NC. The inshore fishing here is way better.

Will do! I am hoping to slide down the coast more and end up in Florida after this but if we went back to NC I would be happy. The water is nice there even with the gill net issues.

It couldn't be that much different than Charleston. They seem to be everywhere over live bottom or reefs.

Yeah the nets definitely hurt. It’s been tough inshore but when the wind lays I’m having a good time.

The ICW between Topsail and Atlantic beach is a true treasure. It is gorgeous water and the 2-3' bays that surround it can offer some great fishing.
