Good looking field you got there D. If you get the food there, you will kill birds. I planted mine the first week of June with the grain drill. About 2 weeks before the season opens, bushog a couple rows. I bushog a couple rows every week from that point on. Go back over what you cut the prior weeks too. Got to keep it clean. If you keep fresh seed on the ground and good bare dirt, the birds will come to it. We have been doing it this way for over 50 years.

Cut it as close to the ground as you can. Doves want clean ground where they can get grain and grit.

Same here, have not done a dove field since the old days of when you cut and plowed a field and threw out wheat

We plowed field that had big food plot for deer at Daughter/SIL farm and also cut some more strips in what we call teh upper field. Put out brown top couple weeks ago. Had one light rain on it and a huge storm this weekend so should be going good before long

Last year during deer season place had doves swarming like flies on stink and all of the place out there now

Hope it turns out good, got a few friends that we are going to shoot it along my my Son's FIL and my 3 1/2 yr old grandson, this is what I am looking forward to

Yours is looking good , hope it turns out great for you

Never done a dove field here either. Hell, never done anything more than throw peas down for deer. However, we have a flower. IMG_2120.JPGIMG_2123.JPG

mine still isn't planted. 4 weeks of rain kept me out of it and then sick for a week. Weeds are knee high now. Sprayed it last week and killed it back so try and get it disced again this week and planted Monday we will see what happens. Worse case i'll have a bunch of food for deer and cover for the couple wild quail and bunnies Ive got running around

Rain killed us. Never got the flowers in. Field was just too wet and wouldn't dry out. All millet for us this year.

Gave my first shot at a little field this year, planted brown top, sorghum and sunflower. It seems only the millet really took due to weed competition. I’m thinking about spraying and cutting and or burning it regardless to see what happens.
