Default Boat Motor wont cut off

05 Yamaha F115, 06 Sea Hunt triton 186. Motor won't cut off even when pulling the kill switch. Having to cut off batteries to turn it off. Wiring from under the console looks fine. Took a few tries to turn off this week but did fine after one or two times. Today i finally had to try kill switch and then cut power from batteries. Any ideas?

    Key switch gone bad.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Something definitely sounds kooky with the wiring. Regardless of what's going on with the ignition switch when you pull the kill switch it should complete that circuit and kill the motor. If I remember correctly the kill switch circuit is simply a ground that when you pull the lanyard and that button pops inward it completes the ground. If you take apart the controls unplug the wire connections for the kill switch and manually touch them together it should kill it. If it does you got a bad kill switch and possibly other issues. If it doesn't then your problem is somewhere else.

Test the suspect components. Kill switch is either normally open or normally closed. Test continuity with ohm meter. More than likely it is a corrosion issue in the harness on the engine. Trace out the ignition stop circuit which is white on your motor.

Installed a new ignition/kill switch. Didn't fix. Put old one back on and messed with every connection I could see in the motor too. Works just fine now. Loose/corroded somewhere. Ordered corrosion block and just waiting for this to happen again. Most likely somewhere on the engine or computer was loose.

Word to the wise, use a small dab of dielectric grease to protect the connections when you reassemble them. Won't completely prevent anything but it will help further prolong the inevitable.

Did you check the ground? Just went through this exact issue on a motor.

Pull on the wire to make sure not a loose/corroded connection.
