FINALLY! The quest to find a place to hog hunt is OVER! Ahhh - success.

We are heading up to a buddy's club in Georgetown to put out bait tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it should be right by this weekend and somebody will get a shot at something. Man, I'm excited.

He said the hogs really like old fruit and vegetables up there, along with corn of course. Does anyone know if the grocery stores have produce waste that they throw out?

Also, I've heard it suggested that digging holes with posthole diggers and burying the bait works well. Is this worth the effort?

Lots of grocery stores donate items (vegetables) getting old to community soup kitchens or shelters-

the best way I ever had it was to give the dishwasher at a local rest. a few extra bucks to scrape the plates off into a trashcan (that I provided) the hogs came a runnin' along with some other creatures! Next thing you know the damned hogs were wearing black bow ties and smoking jackets

trash had everything from salads to steak & lobster tails- talk about eating high on the hog-- just dont get too big a trash can!

Indeed bury it- the hogs will find it- pour some syrup in a hole and cover it up

If you bury your bait it greatly decreases the chance of other critters gobbling your bait up.

The hogs could not care less if their dinner plate is dirty.

lot of work for a nasty hog.

i would pour out a $6 bag of corn.

used hydraulic fluid works, if he has an old barn around. just pour it on top of the corn. keeps the deer out.

farmer's market always has piles of old fruits and veggies around...but i still dont see why. corn is simple.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

I wish some one would kill all them rooting bastages. They have about ruined all my turkey hunting around Lake Russell. Since they outlawed baiting for hogs on WMA nobody hunts them much except for a few dog hunters. During turkey season I found some mud rubs on trees damn near waist high and these trees are to big to be bent over I even took a few pictures

turk, I have often wondered what was taking them so long to find their way to the upper reaches of Clarks Hill. Sadly, I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

but diesel fuel over the corn.. hogs love it and you want have other critters eating your corn. Also, get you a shovel dig you a hole about 3 or so feet deep, at the bottom cover the hole with corn, put half a cup of diesel fuel over corn, just cover the corn with dirt, repeat process of corn, diesel fuel and dirt till you get to the top.. Leave top layer with corn and diesel fuel. in about 2 weeks you'll have a nice wallowed out hole and all corn will be gone.

Read this on internet about trapping hogs, it works. give the hogs something to work for, won't make it easy on them. Same with the diesel fuel. We've caught now 34 hogs since the first of may, and we have better luck with the diesel fuel on the corn than sowered corn or regular corn.

We ended up putting out corn, apples, molasses, and my buddy's father is going to put out some diesel today.

I put a bunch of corn in an half up-rooted tree then we covered it with molasses...
Should be interesting to see what happens to that tree.

We didn't see a ton of hog sign to be honest, maybe they will get in there by the weekend if they find the bait.

We are going to give it our best effort regardless.

Your not putting out alot of diesel fuel, say 2 to 3 solo cups at a time. just enough to coat the corn.

If it were my property I don't know how keen I would be putting diesel on the ground either but they suggested it and its their property.
So I'll go with the flow.

Friday is here! Can't wait to go huntin' this weekend.

I sure hope someone kills one. You can count on pics and a tall tale or two if thunderheads find pork.

put a fence post in the ground. take some burlap soaked in burnt motor oil and then wrap the burlap around the post and nail it down.
    wait awhile. shoot the hogs.

Killed a sow and almost stepped on the rattler walking back from the stand right after.

    Had an absolute blast!

We had such a good time even she was smiling. Check out that smile!

congrats on your hogger! A recovered big hog with the bow is something to be proud of in my book- good shot and good work on the best kind of hogger- a dead one.

You said it on the recovered part - I was worried about that when we didn't find much blood initially.

I shot her quartering away @ 25yds, almost got a complete pass through but the fletching end you see in the pic broke off in her when the arrow hit the ground. She left just a little bit of drip-drop bleeding out her right side for about 100yds.
Ended up slicing the front of the guts (which plugged the left side), the liver, and the right lung.

Glad we found her - many lessons learned.

Do you plan on feeding your family the meat of hogs that have been eating diesel fuel laced corn?

    Hell I reckon.

We ate some damn good pork tenderloins last night and somebody asked me where I got the marinade. I just smiled and told em the gas station.

J/k, the meat really seemed fine, not rank at all. No one will be eating it except my huntin buddies and I, the g/f just ain't into wild game.
