Have the same motor and have been through the same thing. If you boat in salt water the eBay wrench isn’t going to cut it. I broke all the pins off before I even got going good and that was after several kroil baths and heat. Either buy the Yamaha tool for $100 plus or get new caps with the seals and beat the old ones off with a punch. Even the Yamaha wrench will break sometimes.

It took a 30ton press to remove stainless shaft from the bracket assembly but a 5lb hammer and punch removed the damn cap off the trim unit. Saltwater is hell!

You got to put the oil back in it.

Freshwater boat all the way. Guess I'll try the punches. Watched one video where they cut a notch in the top of the cap with a hacksaw blade and used a flat blade to punch it around. I'll get it one way or the other. Just trying to avoid making it look like shit or having to buy more shit.

I made this one, use grade 8’s and they won’t break

You can use a pipe wrench to get the cap off if you plan to use a new cap

The diameter of the pins that fit into the top of the cap is 0.158". What did you fit those bolts into?

    New caps ordered! Lol
Got the mechanic up the road to get them loose for no charge but I knicked the sealing surface trying to get the dust seal out. Can't win for anything.
