    Default Projects

I know there's people that like boat projects on here so figured I'd post up what I've been working on for the past year. It's been a work in progress while using it over the weekends but everything is finished up and ready to go for a trip to SW FL so I though I'd do a recap here of everything this boat has gone through in the past year.

After searching for a old hewes without any luck (everything I found was very inflated for what it was) I somehow settled on this. It had been neglected in a boatyard for some time and was pretty weathered.

Brought it home and started working on the cosmetics, sanding and filling scratches, grinding down and fixing a poorly done keel repair, then for my favorite part, sanding, buffing, compounding and repeat....

Next came going through the systems, new wiring, pumps, lights, and solenoids for the jack plate.
Then on to the engine with new lower unit oil, impeller, carb rebuild, new prop, and a fresh paint job.

For the final touches, new trailer, seadek, homemade acrylic console door, humminbird unit and a new set of Bennett electronic tabs I ended with this.

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty of the small things that come up along the way but it's been nice having something to work on in the evenings.

Not a damn thing wrong with that. Good job, hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

    Very impressive. Well done, sir.

Question: did you already know how to do all of that stuff (particularly, the hull repair and the fiberglass sanding/refinishing), or did you learn as you went? I'm curious, as I'd like to know what I'm getting into if I do similar work on my boat.

Started working on boats when I was a kid, you get better as you go. I'm no professional though.

Just get a grinder and go for it

Nice work. I've got an old Hewes project underway now and am afraid I may miss the tarpon rut before the darn thing is finished.
