Last match I think the furthest target was approx. 600 yards. With all the rain and wet roads most of the longer shooting areas were not accessible with that many vehicles. If it's dry there is the 1000 yard range and also a clear cut that we can get out to 870ish. Depending on target size and caliber the gas guns can struggle a little past 800 for the smaller calibers.

Do breezes over the water not have an impact, or does it make it easier to judge the wind?
It's not enough to simply tolerate the 2nd Amendment as an antiquated inconvenience. Caring for the 2nd Amendment means fighting to restore long lost rights.

Bstick can weigh in probably more, but it can and can’t help at the same time. They’re was one time we had a nice right to left wind across the water, but you could see the mirage going left to right about 20’ obove the water. It did make it easier to see how many different winds you’ll have in that long of a shot. I can’t wait to go out west and stretch it out over different terrains.

I find that shooting over water makes it a little easier to judge wind in some cases. There were a few times where we had right to left at 400 yards, no wind out to 800, and left to right at 1200. This particular place can get very tricky with wind. There has been times when I dialed 8 MOA wind and still held 3 MOA more on the following shot only for the next shot to have a complete opposite wind call. The water helps with direction and shows you where dead spots are. I haven’t convinced myself to trust mirage around water.

Thats awesome dude. Thats on my bucket list too. I am waiting on a new 6.5CM and 5-25 scope to show up and my plan was to go to Bang Steel in VA to shoot a mile. Is there somewhere here in SC that you can pay to do it?

I’ve gotten 1st round hits in matches at 1K with my Grendel. But I’d prefer to stay inside of 800 unless the targets are pretty big. Beyond that anything you’re shooting out of a small frame AR is slowing down fast and getting consistent hits is tough with any wind at all. Had I known the course of fire beforehand, I would have taken my 223 AR to the last Wheaton match. The gas guns beat up on us pretty good.

130’ isn’t too bad. I thought it would be more.

Was that with the Win Mag?
My Creedmoor was 28.6 Mils/ 1813”. I ran out of elevation at 20 something. Had to hold elevation and wind to hit it.

That’s what Strelock said for the Creedmoor. I can’t quite remember what I dialed and held.
