    Default River Cooter

    Pretty sure thats what this is....my oldest was playing with the neighbor kids when they found this little guy/gal on its back in my driveway. We checked it out for a few and then carried it down to the creek and let it go.

    Not sure I’ve ever met a white fella that actually called a turtle a “cooter.”
    Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

    I have hundreds hatch in my yard throughout the summer.

    Marsh Hawks get most of them.

    Crows get most of the nests.

    Believe it or not, "cooter" is the generally accepted proper name for the group of turtles that includes sliders.

    The only turtles I have ever called cooter are snapping turtles. I'd call that a slider or a terrapin.
