Killdeer? Surprised you didn't see the momma bird feigning injury.

Killdeer I believe. Nest on the ground. Mama will act wounded to lure predators from the young

Yep, that’s it 100%. Mom wasn’t far away and that’s exactly what she did. Little fellow was headed in the opposite direction of his siblings and was about to get stuck in between the fence and the fence lining. The mom even followed my truck back out playing like a wounded bird.

We have them around our office. Fun little birds to watch

Not the smartest though. They used to nest in our gravel driveway every year when I was a kid.
Yep killdeer. Some of the coolest birds we have. Old folks used to say if you saw them moving a lot in winter snow was on the way.
Killdeer, the bird with a target on it. They will nest anywhere they have gravel and good visibility all around. They used to lay eggs in the roofing gravel on the flat top building I used to work at. Those eggs blend perfectly with gravel.
They aren't the only birds to use the injured wing stunt. Hen quail will do it and I have had hen turkeys do it when I rambled too close to their nests.

The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.
"I here repeat, & would willingly proclaim, my unmitigated hatred to Yankee rule—to all political, social and business connections with Yankees, & to the perfidious, malignant, & vile Yankee race."
Wood duck hens will do the "broken wing" act to divert attention from the ducklings.
That the Tiger's roar may echo.....
Just be real careful where you walk if you see the momma doing her thing. Eggs can be hard to see and you can step on the nest.
Last week Britton40 and I saw a wood duck feign an injury on the water to distract us from her brood of about 8 babies. Never seen a duck do that before.
