    Default Carb Rebuild Question

Have a Johnson 130 that runs fine at speed but has a rougher idle (idles then rpms drop catches itself then gets back to normal idle speed but eventually dies in neutral)Also do not know the last time the carbs have been rebuilt.

should I even mess with a rebuild since it does seem to be running fine at speed and try to just do some adjustments or just rebuild them, see if it helps and chalk it up to maintenance if not?

In the time you took to write this post you could've had the kits ordered and the carbs pulled off the motor already.

Might be time to replace those oem reeds. Should help smooth out that idle, assuming nothing else is wrong.

And yes, rebuild the carbs. I consider it regular maintenance to replace the orings, needle, etc when you suspect carb issues.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Rebuilt and cleaned the carbs, looked at the reeds and didn’t see any cracks or anything so figured I’ll keep them for now.

Does anyone know what screwdriver I need to adjust the carb mixture screw as it looks like a specialized head?

Believe it or not those splined screws on carburetors came about as a result of the EPA.

Also, in a pinch you can slide an electrical butt connector down over the splined screw and have the other end of the butt connector crimped to a screwdriver shaft and that will usual turn the screws fairy easy but it's a one time use kind of deal.
The actual set of carb screwdrivers aren't expensive and work much better
