Default 96 f150 front drive shaft turning but cvs are not.

Trying to fix the 4 wheel drive on my buddies truck. Got to looking and realized the front drive shaft is turning but the cv axles are not. What would cause this. We know the hubs are probably bad but there is no point of fixing it if the cvs are not turning.

    The driveshaft always turns, correct?

Heck, I don't really know.... Seems it would.

I think the CVs turn all the time, but the front shaft won't unless locked in 4wd. But I'm like you, don't know enough to be certain.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

If there isn't a vacuum actuator on the front diff (disconnect) then your front differential is toast. The half shafts coming out the diff should spin. If there is a actuator then that shift fork inside of it is the culprit. I know in 1997 they had a actuator/shift fork. I think 1996 is just straight locking hubs therefore your differential is bad.
