I was in a friend's tackle shop and noticed a fancy looking shrimp peeling/deveining tool on the counter so I bought it, more to support the shop than any need for a new peeler. I've been plenty happy with the old, red "Zipout" peelers I've been using forever. They guy behind the counter said they were made locally. It's shaped similarly to the Zipout but is made of stainless steel with a plastic handle and it has a little blade on the under side. I really didn't expect much advantage from it but I have been very impressed. The blade does a much better job of removing the vein. I don't find myself washing each shrimp after splitting it. I googled them and they are indeed made in Charleston. Toadfish Outfitters is the name brand. According to their website, which has an expired certificate, they use the proceeds from the sale of each item to restore 10 sq. feet of oyster habitat. I'll probably be giving them to my creek people friends as gifts.
