    Default Shrimp peeler/deveiner

I was in a friend's tackle shop and noticed a fancy looking shrimp peeling/deveining tool on the counter so I bought it, more to support the shop than any need for a new peeler. I've been plenty happy with the old, red "Zipout" peelers I've been using forever. They guy behind the counter said they were made locally. It's shaped similarly to the Zipout but is made of stainless steel with a plastic handle and it has a little blade on the under side. I really didn't expect much advantage from it but I have been very impressed. The blade does a much better job of removing the vein. I don't find myself washing each shrimp after splitting it. I googled them and they are indeed made in Charleston. Toadfish Outfitters is the name brand. According to their website, which has an expired certificate, they use the proceeds from the sale of each item to restore 10 sq. feet of oyster habitat. I'll probably be giving them to my creek people friends as gifts.

The oyster knife is pretty nice too.

Products aren’t made in Charleston (says where they are made on the box), but the owner is a local boy....born and raised around Beaufort.

    Kitchen shears.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The Walmart version probably does work great but these work better. Go be poor somewhere else.

Never lived more than 5 miles from the SC coast. I doubt you can peel and devein shrimp 5 times faster than me. If you can, how much do you charge?

So...here's a confession...I have never peeled/deveined shrimp. I always buy them already done. But, I didn't grow up anywhere near the ocean.
So, how do these things work?
Crops are harvested, animals are killed.

I had never heard of a peeler/deveiner so I watched a video. Seems a little slow to me but maybe it was a yankee using it and it wasn't the Toadfish.

Inlanders. Jeez! Didn't mean to start a competition.

On second thought, this tool won't work for you. It's way too expensive and complicated. Be smart and keep peeling your store bought shrimp with your fingers, stone tools or indentured servants. Only a Yankee would use an improved tool. Harder means better right?

Is it heresy to say that I just eat the damn shrimp vein and all?

    You eat shrimp turds?

Yeah me too. My step mom left one at a house. We used it once for shrimp and grits before giving it back. I prefer to cook them with the shell on.
