    Default Marathon Bound

Loading up the boat and heading to Marathon next week. I have heard everything is up and running but it will be interesting to see the damage. We were there two years ago.

Any of you been this year?

Cheeca Lodge re-opens tomorrow. We will be down there late Summer.

Word is that the fishing has been incredible off shore and in the bay. Enjoy your trip.

I’m heading to Plantation Key 9-16 June. Be safe and post a report.

drove up to marathon from key west a couple of weeks ago. some abandoned and blown apart pull-behind campers onside US1. In Marathon saw a couple of flybridge sport fishermen sunk at the dock beside Burdines bar. don't know what storm got them

Well, we left yesterday at 5:30pm and headed south. We were just north of Jaxonville when the first trailer tire decided to become a M80. Got pulled over at a gas station and got a spare put on. By this point it was almost midnight, so we got a room in JAX. Got on the road this morning at 6:30 and around West Palm, another trailer tire joined the M80 club. I put the 2nd and last spare on. I finally found a tire shop that could put all new tires on the trailer (mine were only 2 years old) and then we hit the road just in time to hit Miami rush hour....Mother F$&)er!!! We rolled into Marathon at 9pm after 20hrs of driving. Everyone we have talked with said we could t have picked a better weather week to be here. With my luck, that means it’s going to rain all week and the bite is going to turn off.

I was down there last week. Left at 5am 2 Friday’s ago and got to the flamingo campground in Everglades National Park at midnight. 95 was a shitstorm, granted I did pick up a boat in Orlando so that was a cluster in itself. Fished 2 days in the back country and then headed to Key Largo for the week. Damage is hit or miss. Talked to a lot of locals and some lost patio furniture while others lost everything and insurance is telling them to pound sand.

We were plagued with really bad wind all week. I’m talking 25mph with 30 gusts almost every day. We didn’t even get to go snorkeling. They guys that did go out to the reefs had damn good fishing though. You should have better luck with the wind this week.
