    Default Timber Guys

Went turkey hunting out on my land on Saturday and noticed neighboring landowner, Rayonier had marked the border with fresh paint. As I was walking around noticed some of their paint on trees in the middle of my property, scraped off. So followed and they had actually started the marking completely wrong, about 100 yards from where they should have been and looks like they realized it after marking 28 trees. They then went back and shaved the bark off these trees to remove the paint. Anyway, do you think these tress will die from this, wondering about pines beetles also. Some of the smaller ones they just cutoff. Anyway, kinda pissed off about it.

The ones where they got to the "meat" of the tree all the way around will almost surely die. I'd be getting somebody on the phone.

The sweet gums will be fine. You can't kill em.

But I doubt the pines make it. What is the orange paint down lower?

The orange paint and bright eyes are where I marked the trees to get to a stand on the back side of the property, I think that is what they started following.

I think that other one is a water oak, anyway. The pics just reminded me of trees I have girdled when I wanted to kill em.

You shouldn't have marked them with orange paint, it's your fault for sending them on the wrong path.

how good of friend is your neighbor should be the key question and how would you want him to treat you if you did this on his property? There is your answer

I think state law entitles you to treble damages for trees taken or killed.

Correct, three times actual damages plus attorney’s fees and cost.

Seems a little excessive... why would they not just paint over it with brown or black paint vs damaging the trees like that?

Hammer them, if it’s 28 pulpwood trees you may be looking at 1/3 to 1/2 a load. You’re going to be rich. Just call Rayonier and explain the situation. Probably a rookie mistake

I don’t think this will justify treble damages
