I haven't turkey hunted in several years, but I've killed several field turkeys that were neither gobbling nor strutting and seemed indifferent to calling by calling constantly. Heck with that don't call too much or too loud.

Saw 2 gobblers in first field. Was unable to close the gap so I slid out and let them be. Saw turkeys in 2 other spots too. I will be trying to get on them in the morning.

Then you particularly need to pay attention to part of this response:

got there late today around 530 pm, peeked around the corner and they were in the food plot about 400 yards away, snuck through the wood line for 200 yds and took a peek- still there and occupied, took my strut decoy and reached out through a bush and planted it 2' into the food plot, backed up and found my tree.

Made a few soft calls and waited

30 minutes and made a couple more soft calls and good old Jake comes to party- and brought a couple of girls with him. Old Tom was trailing behind with another longbeard and they were coming on a string toward the strutter decoy.

100 yds- 80 yds- 60 yds and I had the bead on him and YAP YAP YAP a damned stray dog came bustin out the woods looking for a turkey dinner and they all were gone.
Damned dog don't know how close he was to death today.

I will be a little earlier tomorrow hopefully.

No luck this morning. I went to a spot that I thought would be less favorable to save another for tomorrow w my uncle. Sure enough, heard 6-8 birds on the limb for about 20 minutes gobbling at everything they heard. I would say they hit the ground around 715ish and I heard 5 more gobbles and that was it. Stayed put for awhile w a real hen mount out and a jake strutter. After about an hour I decided to pick up and move towards where I thought some of the birds may have gone. Went and sat on another food plot edge for about 45 min, no action. Walking back to my original spot/truck I crossed paths w two birds but they saw me through some brush and eased away. I may go try to sit again in a bit and will definitely go tomorrow but am strongly considering going back to where I was this morning due to the number of birds I heard. Sitting along the Savannah river this morning and was a brisk 28 degrees. Beautiful AM.

    Default Turkey nerds

No turkeys. Hunted fri and sat am for a few hrs each. Heard birds on the roost but never saw any hunting and they were pretty quiet on the ground. Ran across some hens, some jakes, and a couple gobblers while roaming around. Ended up killing 4 hogs instead. 3 with 223 and one w 30.06.

Pork chops are better than turkey sandwiches.
