    Default Shed Hunting

Took my boy out today and had a great time. Found 2 sheds and he is hooked. He’s 14 weeks and so smart already. Wondering if anyone works their dogs in this way... any good resources out there? Heading to Cabela’s to pick up a shed hunting kit to begin training but wondering if there are any forums/groups/etc. on the subject. Thanks!

For a spaniel, that's a good looking hound.

I know nothing about using a dog for shed hunting, so don't take this as a smart ass comment, but how much more do you want him to do? Looks like he did a pretty solid job to me. Congrats! Good looking pup.

That's awesome. Look forward to seeing his progress. Can't answer any of your questions. I know it's big out west so might look for forums out that way.

Well he’s 14 weeks so I must say he more walked with me to find these then I’d hide them and he’d find them and be rewarded. He loved it and showed a lot of interest in it which is what I wanted to gauge before I went into training him to do it on his own

That’s great. Here is a podcast that has an interesting discussion about shed hunting dogs with maybe some things to work on or sources you can go to.

Look on Facebook under shed heads or lab shed dogs. I cant recall what it is under but I know there are some pages dedicated to shed hunting. My friend actually has shed dogs and runs them in tournaments. If you look you should find a ton of info.

I love hunting sheds, one of my favorite past times.

That's a good looking pup you have there!

    Awesome!!

He found this one on his own Tuesday. We went to Cabela’s and got Dokken’s Shed Antler Training book... good basic info... a shed dummy and Rack Wax. That may have been a waste because we could use real sheds but the dog is obsessed with the scent. Hasn’t let the shed from Tuesday out of his sight
