Default Need help with squeaky brake drum

I can't get my damn golf cart brakes to quit squeaking. They mainly do it early in the morning when the humidity is high. I have checked and cleaned them. There is a good bit of brake pad left. I can sand the drum and clean them but it only helps for a short period of time and then they get right back to squealing again. Does that brake squeal spray stuff work? I don't know what else to do or look for.

Chamfer the leading edge with a file to 45 degrees.

Because chamfering the edges helps stop vibrations and in general makes the brakes stop squealing.

I usually chamfer the top and bottom of each shoe. You probably can't achieve a true 45 because the top of the shoe will get in the way of the file, but 60 degrees or so will work. After you're done, run some sand paper over the shoe lightly and clean everything with brake cleaner.

Makes a lot of sense. What kind of file are you using? Thanks!

And.........I only eat onions and use burnt oil for fire ants. Thanks for the pro tip though.

A little STP will stop squeaks.

You need to clean and oil the brake cable so that it will actually return to a position where the shoes don't drag.

Then, your brakes will magically stop squeaking.
