    Default Hunter completes waterfowl slam

    https://www.fieldandstream.com/grand...-north-america

Unlike with sheep or turkeys, there’s no official list or organizing body that keeps track of the North American Waterfowl Slam. It’s an unofficial collection of 41 to 47 bird species and subspecies. Some hunters count color-phase birds, like the blue variety of lesser snow geese; others don’t. Bard is one of the hunters who counts the color phase, and all that’s keeping him from reaching No. 47 is a cinnamon teal. The quest has taken him all over the continent—from the Bering Sea in Alaska, where he shot a harlequin from a rubber dinghy (after which he fell into the water), to a Florida storm-water treatment pond, where he checked off a mottled duck, to Newfoundland’s Fogo Islands, where he dropped a borea*lis eider, a subspecies of the common eider.

I know Mike, as well as some other people on here.

I went to his house and shop a few years ago. His shop setup is second to none. He could outfit a small army of duck hunters.

Also, add the obligatory “it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy”.

Looking back at the article again, and his list, I find it interesting how he picked and chose his species, which he includes several subspecies of. If he wants to jump into subspecies, he is still missing
    Mexican Duck
    Western High Arctic Brant
    Gulf Coast Mottled Duck
    Tule Goose
    Hudson Bay Eider
    Blue Ross Goose
    Trumpeter Swan
Not to mention the 8 widely recognized subspecies of Canada Goose and the 4 subspecies of Cackler Goose.
A Sandhill Crane isn’t a waterfowl species either, but since he wants to think they are, there is a few subspecies of them too. He’s technically got a ways to go on his waterfowl species of North America quest.
