    Default fishfinder/chartplotter which one

mostly fresh water, will see some inlet use...750/800 budget

    garmin
    hummingbird
    lowrance
    simrad
    raymarine

800 will really be my top end, and I've found good units from all these brands just don't know if any are much better than the other or does one really out perform the others at this price point.

Have a hummingbird helix with the sidescan that I have really liked coming from having lowrance before.
Depending on your use I would factor a map chip into the budget.

For that budget I’d be putting my money into a Humminbird Helix 7 G2 SI. It’s what I’ve been running on my kayak for a year now and has been excellent. The side scan and down scan image clarity is unreal. I did upgrade to the HD transducer and saw a noticeable improvement in clarity.
Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL

I'm a Humminbird guy. From what I read, Lowrance customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Also, Humminbird is supposedly more user friendly. If you compare the equivalent of a Humminbird Helix 7 SI to a comparable Lowrance model you will pay about $200 more. You can find the Helix 7 on EBAY for around $620. Don't get me wrong Lowrance is a good unit I just like the Humminbird a little more. It's almost like a Ford/Chevy type deal.
