    Default Puppy Food?

I’m picking up my new puppy next week. I have always raised puppies on Purina Puppy Chow. Am I missing the boat on something? It seems there is a million different dog foods these days.

I have been using red flannel puppy for the last year. It is purina’s prenium brand. It’s $30 for a 50 pound bag. I used red flannel prime during hunting season for adults. It’s a little higher in protein for the cold weather and high activity.

Will you train the dog yourself or send the dog to a trainer?

Purina pro plan sport is what I fed diesel from the day I picked him up until he passed.

If you going to train the dog yourself it's up to you, if you sending the dog to a trainer ask the trainer what they feed so it won't be a shock when they get there for training.

Or just bring the food that you feed to the trainer.

I’ll 2nd this. I’ve been feeding this for the past 15 years and all of my dogs have done great on it. The puppy food, regular adult, and performance blends have all worked well for my dogs. Setters, Cockers, and Labs.

    Congrats on the new pup.

Purina, Iams/Hills, and Royal Canin are companies to stick with- feed a puppy-specific formula. Don’t fall into the “calcium supplement” garbage, it’s actually been shown to increase chances of musculoskeletal abnormalities.

Blue buffalo, taste of the wild, and any designer shiny bag “grain free” stuff is wasted money. The companies I mentioned have all put millions into nutrition research.

I’m trying to avoid being caught up in the shiny bag designer food deal.
