    Default Scouting

Whose scouted this weekend. What yall seeing out there. Some places I got are looking bad to be honest. Some places are good. Seeing gobbler tracks just really gets me fired up. They still exist...

Still exists? Ha, First camera picture I got was of 4 giant long beards. Had 15 Jakes last year and and 12 the year before that. That was just one of many chufa fields. I think pur hatches have been great the last two years.

Turkeys will be in the same places they’ve always been. Cameras show a great hatch of jakes and a couple birds worth chasing.

Private land seems to be stable or a little up this year. FM is hurting bad from what I've seen so far.

I wouldn't hunt the FM there's no birds

This means - I'd rather drink beer on a Saturday night than get up early tomorrow and listen for turkeys

I never scout. I just go hunt. I have zero interest in hearing or seeing birds that I can't go after. There will be turkeys where I hunt.

Duck Cutter and I saw probably 10 turkeys today while hunting.

I've been seeing 8 gobblers and 7 or 8 jakes on my farm which usually only holds 4 to 5 gobblers max each winter so that's a good sign. I haven't really scouted my other properties yet but did see some sign while bushhogging one place today.

Also had 3 jakes in the driveway yesterday morning, they must have been lost.

Actually, it means, I'm about to be enough of a dick to my family by being gone every single morning and going on several out of state trips. I'd rather wake up and cook them breakfast.

So for the new guy. What do you look for say on Google earth to find a spot that looks promising? What does a tract need for you to go look and see if it's got birds? This is obviously more of a public hunting or out of state hunting question.

Yep. I usually go a few times in February and early March just because I like listening to the world wake up and having the woods to myself. Seeing or hearing turkeys is just a bonus.

On public land, you look for places with trucks parked at them. LOL

Some people are only dick's for certain periods during the year, while others are year round.

Didn't hear any gobbling this morning, but heard some hens while trying to kill a few squirrels before church.

But as for scouting I obviously see a lot of sign as much as I'm in the woods this time of year, two places in particular where I've seen a lot. And I do like to go once or twice to see if I can hear any gobbling.
