    Default Outlawing male turkey decoys

I'm pretty sure I know how this is going to go, but I'm dumb enough to give it a shot.

I think before long, we are going to face another look at turkey limits and/or season dates in this state. I believe that the harvest numbers would come down considerably if male turkey decoys were outlawed. It also fixes the problem of yum yums crawling around behind scoot n shoots. What are your thoughts on male turkey decoys?

Just make it bow hunting only.

I would be for outlawing it on public land. I'm not sure if they could enforce it on private.

I would be fine with it. I would lobby for it if we could get sc back up to four of five tags.

Currently, the limit is 3 in SC. Kill three of the bastages by any legal means possible. Then eat them. As long as its legal, I am fine with it. If they outlaw male decoys, or all decoys, I am fine with that too.

By that logic, how do they enforce anything on private land?

I thought the purpose of turkey hunting was to kill turkeys?

Don't like male decoys then don't use 'em.

You fascist need to take a break from outlawing stuff for a few generations and just do you.

They should outlaw calls too. You have to only use your natural voice. That'll spare a bunch of gobblers lives too.

I don't use them so I wouldn't care if they weren't available but we don't need any more laws. Nothing is going to get that 5 gobbler limit back. I have zero faith in the people who make such laws...these are the same folks that lowered the limit on gobblers to help the population, but in the same move made the hunting season longer lol.

It would save a many a turkeys lives, no doubt. I hunt with a jake about 50% of the time and the majority of the time they are already dead before they see it. One of my favorite aspects of hunting is watching them interact with the decoy at 25 yards, then seeing the look when they figure out they are fooked.
It would eliminate field hunting IMO, and pretty much put you in the woods all the time.

Has there been any official talk of a change with DNR?

We won’t get the 5 gobbler limit back, but it may prevent going to 2. The longer season/lower limit was a dumb ass move, but there is someone in Columbia now that knows turkeys and cares about them and getting things right.

You don't need a male decoy to hunt fields.

I'm no turkey poet and I know better than that.

    Nay.

While I haven't killed a whole shit ton of birds in my life, they've nearly all been field birds.

    None with a male decoy.

    None with a rifle.

The feller sitting beside me on all of those hunts would probably take the credit if you asked him. I would give credit to being where the turkey wanted to be that morning/afternoon.

You need a decoy, i guess is what I was trying to say. A gobbler will hang up in a field real quick like without the threat of another male turkey cutting in on him. I know alot of people ride around until they see turkeys in a field then just get in front of them with a strutter.

Or you could always deer hunt them.
