I cannot sit and read everything in post but unfortunately you dont/cant know how they get paid unless you ask. A lot of those folks are servers basically working off tips and have to also cover takeouts. Shitty deal, but voluntary position.

So what if you are too sorry to cook your own meal at the time, at least drop an extra buck on the tip section. Man up and show the $3 an hour kid bringinging your lazy ass dinner to the car just exactly how much of a cheapskate you are.

The Sonic in Clemson had a midget that worked there and turned tricks behind the dumpster during her breaks.

    "Curbside" it's called.

It's the call in service they got at the Applebee's, Outback, Ruby Tuesday's, and other places such as that

ETA: apparently Sonic is really concerned about customer satisfaction.
I imagine tips are very strongly suggested for those such services.

Never done the so called curb side service. Except for Sonic. Where I will actually tip. I mean if they skate. No tips for tennis shoes.

I watch the interview with the waitress a few minutes ago. She said the customer should want to to tip 15%. The order was for $735 so 15% would come out to around $110. Does she honestly expect to receive $110 for a few minutes of carrying bags to the car?

I think it’s okay to make an exception with a take out bill over 100.00.

Exactly DC. I was partly on her side until she started explaining how you should expect to tip 15% minimum whether you are dining in or picking up.

And the best part is that no one would have known or cared except for her friend saw it on Facebook and decided to call and give the church a piece of her mind. The church called to fix the situation and in the process got her fired. Karma.

And let's face it. If she was the best waitress she wouldn't have been put on the take out line to help with carrying bags out.

But the biggest crime of all is that I saw the order was for 25 steaks. $735 for 25 steaks at outback is criminal.

What do you think her tip should have been?

I would try to determine how much work the server had to do to bag the order. Probably 20/30. Usually an order that large is keyed in by a manager depending on the size of the establishment and it’s corporate policies if it’s not a mom and pop establishment. The server will also likely not have to “tip out” on that order.

For the average non-f&b joe that's getting to be too much thinking for picking up some food.

Yes I tipped her, more than 20 percent, too. She did cook my food and take my order in less than 5 min.

That being said, I tip good service, bad service, a little or a lot of service. I don't know what is going on in those people's worlds or their lives at the time, but if a little grace extended through some dollars that I personally don't need will help someone out, it's not that big of a deal. Don't get me wrong, I'm plenty principled and plenty stubborn, but life's just too damn short.

Same here. We do the call in at Outback quite a bit and I always tip them about 10% since they do bring it out the car, couple places I frequent a lot I will tip a couple bucks when I walk in and get our order

Lot of these places have teens working there I had in my driving school and I keep that in mind. Hell at least they are working

NOW with that said I pretty much do not tip when i just walk in an pick up a to go order most times

As for what servers make, I don't want to hear that crap. Tell them to turn in ALL OF THEIR TIPS, they make WAY ABOVE min wage. My daughter was a server through college, nice restaurant here in Anderson on Hartwell, and she did pretty well for 2-3 nights a week

The mornings I eat at same couple places every day unless I cook something at home before I leave I tip those servers pretty well. Really don't have to order they just bring me my food since i eat same thing every day

I have no problems tipping 20%+ for good service. But I have to be able to see and judge a service to base that on.
The cook is paid by the restaurant. Not a very good argument Rayray.
