Default 648 war eagle tiller options

Just got a new to me 648 war eagle and need to power it. Looking at either Yamaha 25 4 stroke or 40 4 stroke. Is a 25 underpowering the 16ft war eagle? Would be mostly myself, 220 pounds, and a 3 and 5 year old boys just fishing. Thanks,

A 25 will get you A to B. A 40 will help plane off faster, give you a better cruse RPM, more top end speed, and haul your load better. When I priced motors for my Havoc a 50 was only a few $100 more than a 40 in a tohatsu and both were the same weight.

    I’d look for a deal on a 40 or 50.

Yes I believe the 25 Yamaha 4 stroke will be underpowered on that boat.

A 25 will push that boat fine, I'd guess 25ish mph. With that said, if I was spending the money, I'd go with a 40+ motor.

Go with the biggest HP motor that the transom will safely hold. Its better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

A 25 would technically push it but when you start adding people and gear you’re going to wish you had atleast a 40

Keep this in mind. An underpowered boat is more dangerous than an overpowered one.

I have a 15' 48? wareagle and a 4 stroke yamaha 25. Not the newer lighter one. The four stroke replaced a 2 stroke yammy 25 that was perfect. The four stroke is too heavy for the boat. Had to add a whale tail and move my gas tank fwd which sucks compared to original setup. The motor will get up and plane off fine, but the extra weight really screwed things up. Added a battery/elec start too...

25 isn't enough hp with a load. Buy the 40 and run half throttle.

Why did you "have" to add a whale tail?

Wouldnt plane off right without it unless you had load balanced just right
