    Default Dogs and mosquitoes

Any suggestions on what to use to keep mosquitoes off of dogs or at least cut them down some?

Regardless, put/keep your dog on heartworm preventative year round. Thank me now, or pay me later. Choice is yours.

    Bifen. Brand name is talstar.

I spray my yard a few times a year and it helps alot. Also helps to spray the bushes and try to get up under the leaves.

    Also helps with fire ants.

ETA link. It's one ounce per gallon so this jug goes a long way.

Yard is fine, this is for when we're at the farm. I need something to put on her.

There are a few product that say they repel mosquitoes. Advantix is one and the vectra 3D is another. I've not found that particular function on any of them to be worthy of a main selling point. However they're better than nothing.

Cross check plus. Everything else is child's play...

Treat the farm. Nothing like having a barrier around your entire area.

Help me out here please.. Bites cause the heart worms? Is there really that high of a risk in the winter months? For 'pet' dogs, inside the house 1/3 of each day.

Heartworms are spread via mosquitos. We have mosquitos year round.

Probably not recommended but I've sprayed my dogs with Deep Woods Off occasionally when skeeters are really bad. Dogs hate it but it helps. Cover their face while you spray. I figure a possible interaction with Off is less gamble than a bug spitting directly into their veins.

This. Vectra's (made by Ceva) main selling point is that it prevents the bite from happening, thus providing a more effective way to prevent heart worms when also used with a regular htwm preventative. Advantix has been around forever and at least used to make the same claim, haven't really looked at it in a while.

If mosquitos were a steady issue for me, I would be looking to use one of the above products for relief.

Another thing I don't see much of these days is ovitrol spray and that may help too. Smells like some serious shit when you spray it on any dog/cat and I know it kills fleas/ticks quick like, it also says it repels mosquitos but the prior two products may be superior. I am not sure.

I am sure if you go by Glenn's he will get you straight.

Anything with bifenethrin or permethrin will work. This article also recommend using sprays made of lemon and eucalyptus, have anyone tried this?
