    Default 2005 vs 2007+ Tahoe

Looking for a around town suv.....shopping Gm suvs under 15k prefer more like 10k.

    Found two z71 Tahoe (original frat wagon)....2005 2 owner with 120k miles for 9k and a 2008 with 125k miles for 14k.

Pricing aside which would be the more reliable ride? I think the 07+ is when GM put the AFM system in? ANd I know in 09 they went to the 6 spd transmission....anything else I should know?

Pre 2007. My wife had a 2007 and it was a POS. Sold it and bought her a 2004 Z71 and it's been great

I have an 07 classic silverado that doesn't have the AFM but the new body styles that year I believe had them. Assuming the motor is the same in that 05, I would get that one. Mine hasn't missed a lick in 160+k.

07 on.... Be prepared for burning oil, lifter issues, and possibly a camshaft or two.

I know it's not what you asked, but just another opinion. Look at the 1st gen Sequioa. I'd look for a 05 to 07. They have the 5 speed auto and a little more power. I love mine. My mom has had for ever. Great ride.

I have a 2004 Z71 Tahoe that I drove the crap out of. It has 260,000 miles on it. Other than oil changes I had to replace the alternator.
As of June 2017- I replaced it and it is no longer my daily driver.
I still own it and would not hesitate to take it on a trip of a few hundred miles.

Have an 02 Avalanche with 300k+ on it that we take to the coast all the time. Wouldn’t hesitate to drive that truck anywhere.

My dads 05 Silverado has 217k on it and it hasn't missed a beat. He pulls a Ranger z20 all over the southeast with it and it's still going strong.

I have a 2004 Z71 - It was my daily driver for 12 years and 218,000 miles. I finally upgraded a month ago. Honestly its a great truck. Never really had a problem with it other than the typical alternator or other small issue. Like Relentlous, mine needs a new instrument panel but is a reliable truck. We just drove it to Missouri and back on a trip a couple months ago. And a bonus with the pre-2007s, they have the most comfortable seats ever put in a truck.

I didn't trade it and it will be coming up for sale on here soon (once I clean it up for pics)

Not sure what type of problem you guys are having with your instrument panel- but my Speedo quit working about 6 years ago. I got some jackleg to repair the Speedo for $100 about 6 years ago. It has worked fine ever since. I have no idea what he did- but he did not have to pull the instrument panel out.

My 03 Sierra 1500 (5.3) has 360,00 on it and made the trek out west again this year on autopilot.

no id just bought it and got the low oil light. Started researching and found out that afm delete fixed it. So took it to krt and had it deleted. No problem since and actually got better mileage afterward.
