Eels belong to Synbranchiformes, they live in marsh. They are small and harnless. In terms of food, they are high nutritious.
With aboriginal people, they eat what nature gives them, what they catch or get and process in their different ways. Today, we will learn a great, simple but effective trapping method of aborigines. You must be surprised.
First of all, they found a marsh that is a good environment for fishes. They dug a hole that can keep fishes and eels inside when they come in. The hole was normally 30cm high, 30cm long and 20cm wide. Then, they made ditches connecting the marsh and the hole by bamboo tube and covered the ditches by mud.The trap was completed, they used crushed crabs and put inside bamboo tubes to attract eels.
After making trap, just waiting for a while, we were surprised when remove the covering branches on the hole. The two men got a wonderful result with so many eels.
Steaming eels up with Primitive Skills
As we know, eels are slippery. The two men used ashes to remove eel’s viscosity. Then, they used a banana trunk, gouged it and put eels in the trunk. Remember to cover the hole mouth to avoid smoke. Then burning it. After nearly an hour steaming, eels turned to dark yellow and the smell of eel came out. To make this food more delicious, they added salt, chili and lime. It is so hard to just looking at this food.
