    Default Band Reporting

A buddy shot a banded bird during our evening hunt yesterday. We’ve tried putting the numbers on the band in the form on the USGS web, and keep getting an error saying that band number hasn’t been issued. Need someone with band experience to take a closer look.

I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to include the -. Just a thought maybe another issue.

Is it a federal band? You know, the ones that save Avise, not advise.

I didn’t put the dash in, it did that on the website. It has the website and phone number on the band

It may have been so recent that it hasn't made it in the database yet. I've encountered that in the past.

    CALL 1-800-327 BAND

I've had that happen before. The lab tech mis-entered the banding number info by one digit.

I heard that the 1-800 number had been discontinued for cost savings, but would guess that it is a recent band and not yet in the system.

It could be that the bander hasn't put it in the system yet (or that they tried and the Bird Banding Lab screwed it up - that happens a lot). The BBL will send an e-mail to the person who was issued the band saying "your band was shot but you have to put in the info". It could take a few weeks but they are supposed to track down an answer for you.

And it could be that the Lab put in a typo like someone mentioned before. Just call it in/use the website again.

The number may still work for now but not for long, they're discontinuing it. They never answered the phone anyway...

Took 3 or 4 months to get this report back....the guy apparently only turns in his info like twice a year....way different than ducks though.

When in doubt, shoot him again!

Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!

We’re the first four digits 1828 by chance? Wondering if they may be from the same group.

Last digit 8 should be a Canada goose band. 7 series bands are used on Black, Mallards, and the other large ducks.

Last digit of numbers before or after the dash. Last number after the dash was a 7
