    Default College Scholarship info

My oldest is a senior this year. She is looking at Winthrop and Charleston Southern with a lean toward CS. Has a cousin that goes there and a boyfriend at the Citadel. She received a scholarship for each school but is still very short. We have saved some money for her but honestly started too late. Any leads on any "outside" scholarships? Excellent grades, excellent athlete (lots of awards)(has no desire to play college ball), lots of extra curricular activities, loves the outdoors. Going to major in business and hopefully work for me one day (insurance). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are more scholarships out there than you could ever imagine. There was a website I looked at not to long ago that listed every scholarship available in the state of SC. I'll have to see if I can find it. What about any money from SC Education lottery. Look into her SAT and ACT scores. My niece got an extra $1500 yr for bringing her ACT up by a point or two. Her school guidance counselor "should" have lots of info.

Its not the one I was referring to though.

Google is your friend in this matter too.

Thanks LL. Forgot to mention that she will get the lottery LIFE scholarship ($5,000 per year). Charleston Southern has offered a $12,000 per year scholarship. However, Charleston Southern tuition, fees, room and board, etc is $37,710 per year.

Try selling enough stuff to pay for 2 in college, then add a car, apartments and groceries. Then welcome to my world. Scholarships help but open that wallet.

Why can't she pay for it? Why do you feel obligated to pay for her education? Honest question?

It’s his kid. Let the man try and help his own how he wants. You must not have kids.

    State supported school.

I’m saving myself but hope this bubble burst before mine gets there. Whatever I don’t save beteeen now and then, my kids will be responsible for.

And what DT said. College of Charleston is half the cost

It's not going to be a popular option but what about finding a company that offers an educational/tuition assistance program and work full time while going to school?

Not quite correct. Tuition and room and board at CoC is $23,387. While less than CS no where near "half the cost". Also, small private colleges tend to offer more in "scholarship" money than "state supported" schools making them close to equal in costs. Also, private colleges will negotiate the cost of tuition while state supported schools won't.

IN-State tuition is ridiculous at a public school. Private school will never be worth the difference.

One of my customers is offering a 1000 scholarship. Link here. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.p...bstory_index=0

There will not be many applicants at all so it may be worth it.

To the OP have her go to the admissions office at the school and ask them for all the scholarship info she’s available for. They’ll have it...at least the citadel did years ago. There are likely several scholarships out there that are only for Charleston southern students that only the admissions office would know about. Dave Ramsey will tell you to apply to all you qualify for no matter how big or small. $1000 here and a $1000 there can add up quick and make a difference.
