Default F-150 Issue - Needing Help

    2006 F-150 5.4L 4x4 Lariat with 206500 miles

It has been the most reliable truck I've owned; until today.

I hadn't cranked it since Tuesday till this AM. Went to crank and it was completely dead.

Was able to jump it off. It idled great, revved normal, so I put it in gear to drive around the block.

I made it about 500 feet, then a popping noise, and then nothing. Completely dead. No PS or PB, just all systems down...

Jumped it off again. Seemed normal, put it in gear, started to give it some gas... then again, the slight popping noise, and dead.

It's on the side of the road. Need help figuring out where to start.

Put a battery in it. Sounds like the battery is no good

I have had 6 of those trucks and probably have a way over a million miles on them combined and have never heard of what you described- if me- I would pm KRT for a clue, and it might be worth it to tow it to him- he recently saved me enough doing a diesel delete that it paid for 4 new tires and the trip from Charleston.

We do lots of our own repairs and use the F150 forum for guidance quite often

if this is the case- just swap a loaner battery to check it.

Giving any kind of error codes? I’d start simple and just have battery then alternator checked first. After that somebody else would have to look at it.

When idling, the voltmeter was reading normal, still battery?

I'd watch the voltmeter like a hawk when you jump it again.

I expect you've got a problem with your alternator. A short of some kind. It may be the voltage regulator.

What you're describing is pretty hard to nail down, but like has been said before, it's electrical.

Ford has dummy guages. Put a fluke meter on the battery and get a reading.

I'm doubtful homeboy owns a Fluke.

With the "all systems down" comment, I'm not sure a capable scan tool is going to capture it.

Homeboy couldn't tell you what a Fluke looks like...

I'm going to pull the battery, and see if that's the easy fix.

Tow it to me, I have a Fluke. In all seriousness it sounds like a bad cell in your battery. Replace it and I would check your alternator output voltage with a load to make sure it’s charging correctly.

Just pulled battery and had it checked. It was down to 6.5v and zero charge. Hopefully, that's all it is.

Put a battery in it and roll on.
When you jumped it, you probably put enough charge on it to run the electronic ignition a minute or two and then it ran out
either because your battery is garbage or your alternator is not putting out enough to supply the electronic ignition.
Most likely either the battery or alternator.....

Fuel system is shutting down due to low votage or not operating correctly rather. This creates a lean condition, lean conditions cause back firing/popping back through the intake. That’s the pop noise.
