    Default Barbour ReProofing Question

I recently bought a new/old stock Barbour Bedale. It has been in the original plastic bag for 20+ years and I think the wax has lost something. This jacket is much stiffer than any of my other Barbours ever were. It seems to have plenty of wax on it, but it seems to have turned hard. I used my heat gun to gently heat up the jacket and it was very soft until it cooled off. Then it went back stiff. My question is...will rewaxing it soften it up?

I rewaxed my Barbour last year. They look shiny and stiff immediately after. You either have too much, which is unlikely, or is has not been drawn into the fabric yet. A hair dryer on low heat will work as will a heat gun but as soon as it gets shiny buff it. Then remove any excess with a dark towel. A pro tip is to warm the jacket thoroughly before you start. You can put it in a pillow case in the dryer, opens the fabric up and actually may be all you need to do. MG
