    Default 1991 Tohatsu 40

Looking at a boat with a 1991 Tohatsu 40 2 stroke. Does anyone have any experience with these motors? Can an older motor like this be reliable or am i asking for problems down the road? The seller is having the compression checked this weekend.

    Thanks in advance.

If the compression is good, that will be a solid motor.

if that motor has good compression and clean carbs.....it can dependably go for many more years
if you run good oil in your gas.
A helluva lot cheaper to work on than a 4Stroke too

I had a 98 Nissan 40, the same motor, for 16 years and it fired every time and never gave a moments trouble.

Check out High Performance Tillers on FB. Thousands of motor heads on there that know every square millimeter of this motor and can answer any question you have.
