That’s a great morning, despite getting hurt. Fine mess of ducks. Heal up quick.

You’d be hard pressed to top that one.

    Well done dude!
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Nice strap of birds right there. Surprised there's anything left up there. I thought 9° was bad. So does -9° feel any worse than 9° or is it all the same below 15 degrees?

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Guys...that strap would have never happened if it were’nt for Tripp. It’s certainly a long, strange story, and maybe I’ll feel like sitting down and penning it one day, but somewhere in the midst of some amazing and epic life-after-college-days, Tripp kicked my hungover ass off one of his couches at 0330 am and we piled in his new Ford 4x4 with big Dan Plowden and maybe Perry...and others I can’t recall for certain piles into other trucks followed on a trip to some cutover on the Lynches River...somewhere. I had never been duck hunting...didn’t see the point really. I shot doves, gigged frogs, hunted deer, and fished; why bother with hunting ducks?

I didn’t even pull the trigger. I had a couple of great opportunities at woodies, but I thought I’d wait till I had better looks...and then I realized it was over. One woodie drake got killed, and we celebrated that duck with passion and pride...and I wanted a do-over so I could shoot one...and I was hooked!

So, here I am 26 years later...how the fuck is it 26 years later? It seems like it was just last year...but 26 years later...I enjoyed as beautiful a morning as I can imagine there being. I shot a limit of ducks that is special by any measure...and I hope Rock glanced at the pic, smiled, and realized it was because of him that I was there to shoot those birds in the first place.

Damn Dan Plowden! Haven't heard that name in ten years. His band used to play at my fraternity house at PC. Fun times.

Not sure. I met Big Dan at his 5th birthday party in 1973. I had just moved to Rock Hill, and I have no idea how I ended up at his birthday party, but I remember him getting a Davy Crockett Musket cap gun and a genuine replica coontail hat, and I was jealous. The next time I saw him, we were sharing a smoke of something illegal at Los Hermanos in Clemson where we both played open mic nite for free beer and salsa. After that, we’d bump into each other occasionally playing music here and there and occasionally just partying. There is no mistaking big Dan...he is a gentle giant that sings like a bird...a Marshal Tucker Band bird!
