When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-

Yep, if it weren't for the beavers the swamp run through my property would only be about 10-12' wide. Instead I get about an acre of prime Woodie habitat.

I guess I get hung up on not eating animals that eats their own feces. I shoot them except at the duck swamps. They can ruin a stand of hardwoods in short order, fact. Will ring mature trees and you will deal with dead and dying trees for the next ten years. Real fun while deer hunting trying to find a tree to safely climb on a ridge that a beaver has run amuck on. I shot a couple out of the pond and the last one I just tossed in a burn pile below the dam. When I burnt that pile the next summer the fat in the hide on the beaver burned like fat lighter for a long time.

The only way I've cooked them is grinding them, and making chilli with it.

Be careful around the back end when you clean them. The castor glands are back there, and will ruin the meat if not handled properly.

It is a darker meat, but has a similar taste to beef.

Seriously, no double entendre, they are really good to eat. Crock pot, fried, smoked.
