    Default Iowa outfitters

I Finally accumulated enough points to bow hunt Iowa 2018.

Would prefer to get it done on public or lease land for the season with friends, but unfortunately I just don’t think my work schedule will allow for that to happen. Realistically I think I can only get away for 7 days max. 2 travels days and 5 day hunt.

With that being said, I plan on hunting with an outfitter in zone 4 or 5.
Want to make sure that I get the best bang for my buck with the right outfitter.

Would love to hear yals last experiences and recommendations.

    More details the better!

    Cost, dates, accommodations, expectations, etc!

    Thanks!

Don’t waste four days of your vacation by driving. Try to drive it straight through if you can. Make sure you have the right clothes depending on the expected temperature. We hunt Kansas every year and I believe in Sitka for warmth and wind protection.

Can you fly out and scout in the spring/summer? Is your time frame flexible. IMO, the weather is a big factor in the midwest.

My impression was that it was two days total for travel, hence 7 days including 5 days of hunting and 2 days travel.

Sorry for the confusion guys, but no need to get caught up in my travel plans. I’ll rough it out and do it all in a day or fly out if I have to. I’ve been lucky enough to hunt all phases of the season from opening day through late muzzleloader in Ohio the last ten years. Just like anywhere,I have experienced first hand how much of an impact weather patterns and moon phase can have on the success of a hunt. For those of you that don’t believe that moon phase has an impact, please save that for another thread.

Several folks on here have been fortunate enough to go on some pretty special hunts and I was hoping to hear about them and get recommendations on reputable outfitters in Iowa. Please let’s try and focus on the things that we can control.

Zones, counties, outfitters, guides, accommodations, etc.

I spoke to 1 or 2 that seem to say all the right things, but they don’t have websites and We’re hesitant to give out referrals.

I understand the low key operations can sometimes be better but I just hate to waste 4-5 Years worth of points on a poor outfitter because I didn’t do my homework.

Good luck whatever you end up deciding. I have had the points for a few years but keep holding off.

    Keep us updated

Should have posted this during the season while everybody was sitting in the stands. Must be a deer hunting hangover or everybody is tooo busy busting ducks in the snow!

Sometimes TV shows have recommended outfitters, that could at least be a starting point maybe? Also, I think there are a few websites that have kind of 'approved' outfitters. Could also take this topic to the Iowa page at Archery Talk forum

Look at Timber Ghost Outfitters. I asked my buddy that lives out there and he said he has heard good things about them, but doesn't know anything about them.

I hunted this year on a friend's farm in Southern Iowa close to the MO line. Iowa is a special place! Good luck!

I have a lease in Zone 4. Try and be there after they cut the corn if possible. It makes a huge difference.
