Don't ever do things like this but my FIL is about at the end of his rope
He is 74 yrs old and diabetes has taken it's toll on his body as well as prostrate cancer which is now also in his bones, long story short he lost his right leg about 3 yrs ago and how today getting ready to have his left leg removed (has had about 1/2 of that foot removed years ago)
He has pretty much been bed ridden for the last 2 yrs or so, cancer and immobility has made pain excruciating for him
Last week home health nurse realized he had infection in that left leg and they have had him on iv antibiotics and we knew all along what surgeon would say
FIL has always been a great guy and worked hard to support his wife and 2 daughters as long as I have been dating his oldest daughter and married her 32 yrs ago. Just sad to see him going through this, no need in laying blame now but he ignored his diabetes for many years and then it became too late . He preaches to my wife all the time(as do I ) to take of her diabetic condition (which she does very well) so she will not end up like him
Naturally MIL is a basket case and my wife and Her sister (both being in the medical field) realize there is a chance he may not make it through the surgery today . Naturally the surgeon said there is always risks but if they do not remove the leg the infection will become septic and he will not make it much longer. The daughters told him it was his decision to make and has decided to go ahead knowing he may not wake up
If y'all don't mind please say a prayer for them, surgery is to be sometime after lunch
It truly breaks my heart to see him this way and hoping he pulls through surgery but even then his quality of life is not that great in the long run .
He is a HUGE Tiger fan and when I stopped by to see him Tuesday morning he was disappointed to say the least but said "At least I got to see the Tigers win it all last year, still proud of our Tigers"
Sure does put things in perspective and I am the first to admit I take my(and my families) good health for granted at times.
