    Those last two are hen buffleheads, not goldeneyes. But great hunting - impressive for upstate public

    You're not exactly correct on the sex but great job on the ID

    But these are IN FACT Goldeneyes. I'll let you figure out the sex

    Squatty - what are the key features that tell the hens from the immature drakes? I’ve seen very few on the wing and even fewer in the hand, but the hens looks like hens to me......I know I’m wrong....help me out.

    Same question on buffleheads....

    Those are Barrows Goldeneye hens. You could never confuse them with the drakes.

    I killed one about 30 yrs. ago in Jack's Creek. She was lost too!
