    Default Seadek Install

I'm pretty sure I'm not breaking new ground here but thought I would put this up for anyone else thinking of installing it themselves.

I had kicked around the idea of getting seadek for awhile but didn't want to shell out the money or pay less for a product that wouldn't hold up and be a pain to scrape the remains off a few months later. Well seadek had a 50% off and free shipping special so I figured this was my shot and picked up one large sheet and one long one. I went with this pattern to hopefully hide stains and any misaligned pieces.

Traced and cut the templates from some thin sheet plastic I found, it ended up being too thin and tear prone which didn't make things easy.

I used a razor to cut everything but it is slightly sandable for any mismatched edges. It also will stretch some which helps.

    Finished product:

While it's not perfect this is a fishing boat and I don't need it to be.
Fished the other weekend in the rain and it has better traction than the old diamond non skid. I'm hoping it's a little easier on my legs after a day fishing barefoot.

Who has used this stuff first hand for a while?

How does it clean up from blood and usual stains?

What type of residue does it leave behind when it’s near the end of its duty cycle?

Once you do it are you committed to the product from residue with out serious work?

Still not much use on it but did go out a few weeks ago, mud and blood came off easily with water and a brush.

I noticed the non rounded edges peeling back slightly, did not leave a reside, rounded them of and re stuck them, seem to be holding well.

Happy with the traction while fishing in the rain, better than factory non skid and it dampens down any noise a good bit on the deck.

Thought I would update this as I just got some hydroturf in to redo my rod lockers and cut the first piece tonight. It is both thinner and less dense than the seadek. I would not think it would hold up as well as seadek with heavy foot traffic but should be fine for this application, it also costs less.

Final fitting of the first piece

We'll see how the rest goes

I know back in the day people used to recommend using the 3M adhesive spray when installing Hydro Turf even if it had the peel and stick backing. Might be common knowledge but figured I'd go ahead and put it out there just in case you weren't aware.

Damnit! That might explain the strange looks I’ve been getting.

The old carpet was old, stained, and took forever to dry out when wet. It was about the same price to replace with HT as it was carpet.

One of the great things with boats is nothing is as easy as you think it will be.
Tonight I found the exposed wood they forgot to glass over in a boat advertised as all composite! Looks like the carpet had been holding moisture to it for awhile so I went in with the grinder and hammer and got most of it out. Now for some glass work before I get to continue with the original plan.
